How to Make a QR Code for Your WiFi

Guests asking for your WiFi password? Print one QR code, stick it on the fridge — visitors scan it and join instantly, no typing, no spelling out 'capital S, number 5…'

What you need

Three things: your network name (SSID), the password, and the security type — almost always WPA/WPA2 on home routers. The security type is printed on your router's sticker if you're unsure.

Step 1: Format your WiFi details

WiFi QR codes use a special text format. Type this exactly, replacing the CAPITALS: WIFI:T:WPA;S:YOUR_NETWORK_NAME;P:YOUR_PASSWORD;; — for example WIFI:T:WPA;S:HomeNet;P:sunnyday42;; (Keep the two semicolons at the end — they're part of the format.)

Step 2: Generate the QR code

Paste that line into our free QR code generator and hit Generate. Download the PNG — that's your WiFi key, ready to print.

How guests use it (iPhone)

Open the Camera app, point it at the code — a 'Join Wi-Fi network' notification appears. Tap it, done. Works on iOS 11 and newer, no extra app needed.

How guests use it (Android)

Open the camera and point it at the code — most Android 10+ phones detect WiFi codes automatically and offer to connect. On older phones, use Google Lens.

Pro tips

Print it credit-card sized and laminate it. Put one in the guest room too. Regenerate it when you change your password — and never post your WiFi QR publicly online; anyone who scans it gets your network password.
